Is 1k a skill too much?
I'm just wondering what everyone thinks/feels about the cost of having to buy skills. It never bothered me with Prophecies because you had a bunch of Skill Quests to make up the majority of your skill base. But with Factions not having Skill Quests (other than the few you get from the starting island) I have found that buying skills is becoming really hard on my money situation. Now, I’m speaking as a casual player that doesn’t get to farm for hours to make money. I’ve only once had just over 100k and I spent all that on the only set of 15k armor I have ever talked myself into buying.
I think there are other things in the game that should be taking your money, like weapons, armor, materials, runes, dyes, etc. I don’t think skills should be keeping you broke. I think it would be nicer to either 1: lower the cost of skills (perhaps to 500g each) or 2: make the quests in the game give better gold rewards.
What does everyone else think?
(PLEASE: keep on topic, flames, and stupid remarks will be ignored)

I'm a casual player too, and most of my money goes to armoring all my alt chars. Help out A-Net.

Yes, 1k/skill is way too much. If they're gonna give me a skill point as reward for the quest instead of giving me skills, then they should give me 1k to buy the skill with my skill point.

in brief....YES
I would like to earn the skill hunter title, but at 1K a pop for elite skill caps, I tend to choose carefully the elites I want.
Anet wanted to make more selection to use earlier, and I applaud that, but if they are still going to ramp to 1K per skill they are defeating the purpose.
There are plenty of gold sinks now with 15K armor, rare materials and lets us not forget the 8K black dye that never seems to drop anymore.
I would like to see them bring down the price of skills or at least of signet of captures that require you to hunt for and kill a boss to use it. Else they might as well sell them directly too.

I feel sorry for those new players who only buy Factions. How will they make money to buy all those skills?

I think one gets quite good rewards for quest and I make more money by just playing the game than in Prophecies, but it still gets quite expensive to by all skills of the primary profession, as I used to do in Prophecies. I don't want it to be a luxury to have a big collection of skills to choose from, that would only hurt the game.
I'm getting the Skillhunter Title for my Nekro, don't get me started, I don't want to know how much I will have to farm for it.

I am starting to think this game is not for the casual player I too only play like 5-8 hours a week (wife, kid and work suck all up my game time) and its a grind to get enough money for the AKA: l33t stuff (100k for a skill trainer?,100k for material trader plz a-net is killing the casual gamer). And now I have to buy all the new skills??? How is this not a grind game??? Farming codes, cant e-bay gold I like the game don’t get me wrong and no I don’t want all the stuff handed to me but 6 months to finish the game and get all the skills before the next chapter comes out . Not to mention you can't just go out and wander around like you could in the first game that was fun just to go and explore but now you can't do that. ok enough of my whinning sry.

Nope, even the finest weapon sells for less than $500 to the merchant.
You see, money is vanishing from the economy faster than it is being created, this will in turn cause a great depression in Cantha!

1k is easily farmable but these so called "average" gamers dont farm..i dont think 1k is unfair because u dont need every skill to play the game
nxt u will be wanting to buy elite skills..

Don't have money to buy the keys in the first place because I'm buying overpriced skills...
Making an investment on keys with a chance to get purple isn't a smart idea either...

Technically you are buying elite skills by buying skill caps and no one suggested buying elite skills in the first place
And if I wanted to experiment with every skill in the game shouldn't I need every skill in the game? After all Guild Wars is about flexibility
Skill>Grind, not Grind=Skill

Yes as I am saving my gold up for armor and holding off on buying skills and I still have some to cap in prophecies.1k is stretching your budget as I always ask myself if I really need it sure it means less unlocks but that is the point in the game.I would prefer skill quests as you get to try it out or unless they gave out more gold in quests like 1k and 1 skill point or 2k and 2 skill points equaling that of skill quests.

Ugh, Christ. I just spent around 300k unlocking every non elite for my warrior. It's really an insignificant amount if you're just buying a few.

If we had gotten a decent amount via skill quests like in Prophecies then 1k would be fine. But as there are no Canthan skill quests (bar when you get given them at the beginning) then yes it is expensive.
It's only an insignificant amount if you can afford it...

its not as bad as it seems. the 1k per may sound bad at first, but by the time youve done all the missions and you are FORCED to farm for skill points, its not that much money. by the time you get a skill point, in my experience youve already made MUCH more than 1k.
i recently completed the first level of skill hunter (getting any more is gonna be hard considering i dont have factions ). i farmed trolls when i ran out of skill points. between the drops, the salvaged materials, and the tusks (i sell em for 20per when im too lazy to run to merin myself), i ended up with more money than when i started. and let me point out that when the title patch hit, i had 10 capped, so thats 80k i spent on skills since then.
the true saving grace of the skill title is that elites now give 5k exp when capped at level 20. that makes things go much faster- its pretty much a "farm 3, get 4 skill points" scenario now.
anyway, i think the 1k per is fair. its a decent gold sink (consider how many times a day that 1k is spent!) which in all honesty, we need more of. 1k can be farmed in 15 minutes or so by pretty much anyone. and even for those who hate farming, 1k can easily be made in under 30 minutes of normal game play (just exploring and killing).

Yeah 1k is steep, but at that point you should have aquired so many skills where (even if your a casual player) you can make your self 1k for that new skill.
I think 1k perskill is reasonable. Even if it went to 2k I'd still think it's reasonable. Why? Cause your going to have kept that skill and have tha bility to use it over and over again WHILE making that NEW gold back.

I think they should make it like this:
Buy 1 skill for say 1k
Next skill you buy (without closing skill window) Costs 200g less.
1st skill:1k
2nd:800g
3rd:600g
4th+:400g

in prophecies, by the time you capped an elite, you made the 1k for the cap sig. In factions, unless your boss is sitting right outside the door, you can make a decent amount of money while capping too.
Is 1k too much? Not really. Did we start prophecies with the ability to buy all skills? No, we were stuck with the presearing ones plus the ones from quests.
In factions, we get to choose which 8 skills we want, and just like in prophecies, getting all skills for your characters profession takes time, just this time, instead of having to beat thunderhead, you need to do quests/missions for money.
Also, skills don't start off being 1k, so new players can actually play the game without a disadvantage.
Now, lousy memory, but there are about 25 new skills for the core professions each, that's 25k for a tyrian character. A typical tyrian character getting to factions DOES NOT need more armor/weapons. Factions is designed with the most awsome set of collectors (and collector items drop nicely) for weapons of every type you can want and a lot more skins for bows.
All up, factions will give tyrian characters the choice of new armor/weapons or skills. Use your own judgment as to which is more important to you and which is a luxury.
Of course, my assassin is missing lots of skills due to lack of skill points/money at the time. He's a lvl15 and currently is not being played, so I'm not buying more skills for him.
